FieldLog (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a field recording logger for sound recordists. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
1.1 Location
- What: GPS coordinates at the time you log a take, if you choose to attach a location.
- How it’s used: To tag your recordings with a location and to fetch local weather conditions (temperature, humidity, wind) from a public weather API at the time of logging.
- When: Only when you tap “Get Current Location” or “Set Location on Map” — never in the background.
- Stored: Locally on your device only.
1.2 Camera
- What: Photos you take using the device camera.
- How it’s used: To attach a setup photo to a take (e.g. a photo of your microphone placement or rig).
- Stored: Locally on your device only, in the app’s private storage directory.
1.3 Photo Library
- What: Photos you choose from your photo library.
- How it’s used: Same as above — to attach a setup photo to a take.
- Stored: A copy is saved locally in the app’s private storage. Your original photo library is not modified.
1.4 Take Metadata
- What: Recording metadata you enter manually: take name, start/stop time, track count, sample rate, bit depth, notes, UCS tags, and gear information.
- How it’s used: To populate your take list and allow you to search, sort, filter, and review your recordings.
- Stored: Locally on your device only using an on-device database.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting SDKs, or advertising SDKs.
- We do not transmit any of your data to our servers.
- We do not share any data with third parties.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
3. Third-Party Services
Weather API
When you attach a location to a take, the app sends the GPS coordinates and recording timestamp to a public weather API (Open-Meteo, openmeteo.com) to retrieve weather conditions. Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather API that does not require an account and does not log personal data. See their privacy policy at open-meteo.com.
No other third-party services are used.
4. Data Storage
All app data (takes, gear lists, settings, photos) is stored exclusively on your device in the app’s private sandbox. It is included in your standard iOS device backup (iCloud Backup or local iTunes/Finder backup) and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
5. Children’s Privacy
FieldLog is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
6. Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:
- Access: All your data is visible in the app at all times.
- Delete: Delete individual takes or all data by uninstalling the app.
- Export: Use your device’s backup tools to back up or transfer your data.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
