Ever since I started sharing the android version of the app, people have asked if I had an iOS version. After finding some Apple hardware, and porting the Kotlin app to Kotlin Multi Platform, I can now says that FieldLog.net is coming to iOS! The app likely won’t be on the store until mid-April due to the rigorous review process, and me wanting to have feature parity before I apply. It is available now for beta testing on iOS through Apple’s TestFlight program.
If you want to try it out early, you can join the beta here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/753cZsdA
Given how few devices I have to test on vs Android, I would really appreciate the help and feedback!
Oh yeah, and going forward I’m going to start calling this whole suite of things FieldLog.net, to differentiate it from some of the other apps out there. If you see that name don’t think I’m explicitly talking about the website, which I also have some big ideas planned for!
What is TestFlight and how do I join the test?
TestFlight is Apple’s platform for distributing beta versions of iOS apps before they hit the App Store. To get started, install the TestFlight app from the App Store, then tap the link above. You’ll be able to install FieldLog.net and receive updates as the beta progresses.
As a beta tester, you may run into rough edges or missing features. If you do, feedback through TestFlight is extremely helpful and comes directly to me and helps prioritize what gets fixed or updated.
Feature Parity
The goal is for the iOS version to have full feature parity with Android. Most of the core functionality is already there including takes, gear management, location, weather, photos, drop rig tracking, and more. That said, there are still a few things I’m working on, so expect some gaps during the beta period.
If there’s something specific you rely on from the Android version and it’s missing, please let me know.
Thankfully with the new multi-platform approach any feature I add to one can quickly link in the other one, generally the only code that differs is the UI code that the users directly interact with.
Thanks again for being on this journey with me, and happy recording!
