I started writing FieldLog after frustrations from how poorly I handled organization after a trip to England in April. Well, I’ve been using the Android app (and syncing online) since around the start of September, and I took it on a recent trip to Japan for two weeks in November. I generated about 600GB of /stuff/ a mix of video, audio, and photos.
Particularly when it comes to audio I generated 21 ambiances, and another dozen plus longer form takes.

As I get through processing things, I’ll upload them to my YouTube channel you can find at https://www.youtube.com/@houstinwehaveaproblem
This was my second trip to Japan, with the first being in 2023. The first trip was Tokyo, Sapporo, and Nagoya. This one I flew into Kansai airport and spent the first 5 nights in Osaka, doing various day trips from there, then bounced through Kanazawa, Takayama, Matsumoto, Kofu, Fujinomiya, and finally ending with 3 nights in Tokyo.
While the ‘Golden Route’ stops certainly weren’t my favorite spots so far, I’m happy to have seen them.

Thankfully logging on here worked a treat, and it’s really satisfying to see things pop onto the map as I travel. Probably one of the biggest regrets was not getting anything at Kenroku-en garden in Kanazawa, but between the rain and how crowded it was, it just wasn’t to be.

The location with the best views was Fujinomiya for sure. Managed to swing through there just at (or maybe slightly after) peak red maple leaves and stayed at an amazing ryokan with a view of Fuji-san.

I want to see if I can put together a more longform style travelogue video, but that might be beyond my current skill levels. Either way, I see this as a great field test for FieldLog.
